Chemistry Rap
01:54
|

I like big matter and I cannot lie
You other chemists can't deny
When the mass and volume are combined
Then I get this tingling in my spine
That shouts CHEMISTRY!!
We'll put materials at the top of our list
They can be anything as long as it exists
But of course a material has got to have matter
Which is mass and volume (as it gets fatter)
If you wanna know about heterogeneous materials
Then take a look at your morning breakfast cereal
You got the milk and the cheerios
But they’ll always be separate and detached yo
In contrast when something is homogeneous
You can't tell what is and isn't in this
Maybe you've got a mixture of gases
But can't see it's a combo without super-glasses!
A substance can be an element or compound
The former's what you get when no more can be found
The latter's got two or more of 'em in fixed proportions
And they're both all pure with limited distortion
When you mix these substances you've got a solution
To which the solvent makes a hearty contribution
It ends up as a solute through diffusion
It was originally a mixture to add to the confusion
When ice melts to water in the spring
This process is more of a physical thing
So the chemical formula doesn't change
In fact, it stays right at HOH!
Sodium is a highly reactive solid
Chlorine is a deadly gas but bonded
They form a mixture we call sodium chloride
We sprinkle on our food with so much pride
That is an example of a chemical change
If you play along, you will understand the game
Eventually you will begin to notice
A system is where the attention is focused
You have three phases in the world of chemistry
These are all defined by physical properties
Solid liquid and gas don't look the same
That doesn't matter, their formula doesn't change!
Now let's start this chemical reaction
I'll get the reagent, and we'll cut to the action
The reactant is consumed and the product results
We know its chemical properties without a doubt!
If you open your eyes wide and take a good look
You'll find more chemistry than you'll see in a book
If you take the time to understand
You can grasp these ideas in the palm of your hand.

Countdown to Zero
02:08
|
|||
At Shorecrest we want everyone to learn in their own way
We want to give the message that we're all okay
Don't change your style just cause you don't fit in
You're all part of this school, even when you don't win
Yet sometimes school can be really boring
There's times when your classes can leave you snoring
But don't give up, the more you effort you make
The more you'll learn, the more knowledge you'll take!
You've all been told you should get involved
So many times now the idea has palled
Maybe the clubs all sound super lame
And all you want to do is play your own game
I'mma tell you right now, if I've learned one thing
It's that it can never hurt to try out new things
Though it may seem like nothing fits your style
Just take a deep breath and give it awhile
Open your mind and let your interests soar
You never know, it might open a door!
At our school we value giving back
It's even a requirement to keep us on track
Sixty hours total, before you graduate
So why not start now, before it's too late?
But community service is more than just hours
It's a whole experience that can really empower
You to find out who you might become
Or to make a big difference in the life of someone
Even though you want to just count up your minutes
Make sure you take some time to see what's in this
Portfolio of hours you've carefully assembled
Read between the lines and see who you resemble
Looking back at all the service you've done
Did you do it cause you cared or just to get one
More hour crossed off that countdown to zero?
If you put your mind to it, you could be a hero
When you're making the decision of what to do next
Do you pick something easy or really what's best?
Maybe you like kids or the environment or medicine
You could work with animals or hike up trails on mountains
Whatever you choose, make it something worthwhile
Follow your passions, and give service with a smile
Remember it's not just about getting it done
Look at your options, and go have some fun!

Imaginary Number Rap
01:42
|
|||
Yo yo, my name is i
You may not think so but I'm so fly
I'm a negative under the radical sign
I'm not your average number like one or two
If you think that's all there is I've got a surprise for you
Listen to me, I'll tell you the truth
All started with some men, sitting in a pub
They thought "what's the square root of negative one?"
Tried as hard as they could but they just couldn't get it
So they destroyed the whole town and all that was in it
This became quite a frequent occurrence
So the people all started buying insurance
They decided that this answer just couldn't happen
So they made up a number and that's why we're rappin’
They gave it some thought and called it i
There was no better name no matter how they tried
If you think i is overrated
Just remember they were all intoxicated
So what's the deal with this strange number
That's weirder than the snow in summer?
Some people might think I don't exist
So then how could I be singing this?
See that's just a common misconception
Though I'm not real I got a huge reception
A whole new dimension opened up
All unexplored, and untouched
Though many at first were quite perplexed
They discovered soon enough I was quite "complex"
A whole new axes called the complex plane
Was completely invented just in my name
I was the latest fad and all the rage
Kids be writing a+bi all over the page
Scribbled on sidewalks and on the billboards
Finally I've come out from under the floorboards!
Though they can multiply me and add me all the better
In the end it's them who's caught in the letters
I'm the last one standing, I make the difference
Without me they would just be indifferent
I hope you learned from this rap I gave
When you hear my name you should rant and rave

Schrödinger's Cat
03:33
|
|||
SPOKEN:
So class, today we're going to learn about Schrödinger’s cat, a thought experiment in quantum mechanics.
RAP:
So Schrödinger, he had this thought
If he took a cat and he put it in a box
With some radioactive matter
There was a chance that the latter
Might scatter
And decay
So if the atom was to go this way
Let off an alpha ray
A vial of acid would be shattered
And the cat would die, but no matter
The radioactive material
Like a regular TV serial
You know what could happen
But you don't know what will happen
So they say we could have decay
Or maybe it'll just stay this way
No decay
So how would we know
If the cat's alive or dead...
Could it be both?
CHORUS:
Schrödinger he took a cat
And he put it in a box
He put a substance in the air
That had a chance of going off
And by the end of an hour's time
We'd open up and see
If the cat was alive and going strong
Or as dead as a cat can be
RAP:
Well if we don't know the state of the cat
Before we open the box to see where it's at
Then the cat could be occupying
Both states
Hold up jump back
Reiterate
I said if we don't know the state of the cat
Before we open the box to see where it's at
Then the cat could be occupying
Both states got it?
Got it!
The physicists they call this
Superposition
When you ain't in one state
Or one condition
And you ain't in the other
By definition
It's a mix of the two
Think juxtaposition
CHORUS:
Schrödinger he took a cat
And he put it in a box
He put a substance in the air
That had a chance of going off
And by the end of an hour's time
We'd open up and see
If the cat was alive and going strong
Or as dead as a cat can be
RAP:
This little experiment in someone's head
Carries the weight of a brick of lead
It has some far reaching implications
And there have been many interpretations
Is it the observer that makes the difference?
The causes the cat to assume a preference
Of the state of being alive or dead
Or is it just one of the possible threads?
Could every possibility, every probability,
Be a new world, that simultaneously
Exists in this universe
And nobody would know
Quantum decoherence
Makes sure there's no appearance
Of other worlds in our own
Yeah, uh huh
CHORUS:
Schrödinger he took a cat
And he put it in a box
He put a substance in the air
That had a chance of going off
And by the end of an hour's time
We'd open up and see
If the cat was alive and going strong
Or as dead as a cat can be
SPOKEN:
And that, class, is something to think about until next time.
